Sunday Torah Education Program (STEP)
STEP is an interactive and informal group of people giving opinions on texts and how these interact with daily life today. While this interfaith discussion group is focused on the Jewish texts, we have also included Christian and Muslim perspectives and analysis on occasion. This is truly an international group, as we have had participants come from other parts of the U.S. and guest participants from Israel and France!
The STEP program is an outgrowth of the Perek Yomi group, which has been meeting continuously at Tifereth for several years. Our discussion has continued because the group offers a fun way for adults to enhance their Jewish education in an easy but still challenging environment. People of all backgrounds are encouraged to attend, including people who have never read the Bible as well as those having a graduate education in religious studies.
Generally we have plenty of good, strong coffee and a homemade delicacy to remind us that the study of our Torah should always be sweet!
Everyone is invited to join us Sunday mornings (except holidays) beginning at 10:00am in the Tifereth Israel classroom for a lively discussion, moderated by Michael Kuperman. For additional information, you may contact Michael Kuperman by e-mail at email@example.com.
Minchah Meditation and Study Group
Awaken your heart to the tranquility of Shabbat!
Designed to be contemplative and peaceful experience, it introduces attendees to spiritual practices intended to connect our hearts, minds, and spirits to the pulse of the world and to immerse us in the blissful stillness of our day of rest. During its one-hour duration, we’ll explore the theme of tranquility through readings, by chanting mantras, and in the thoughtful words of a brief Shabbat message.
Spirituality Study and Discussion appeals to both those who find spiritual sustenance in traditional Hebrew prayers and those for whom the Shabbat experience requires redefinition to penetrate the layers of our hectic modern lives.
Saturday afternoon at 12:30pm.
Join us the next time we meet to sustain your spirit and awaken your heart!
Spirituality Study and Discussion is planned and led by Patrick Courtney and sometimes features guest speakers and leaders.
Miller Introduction to Judaism Program of American Jewish University
This class covers fundamental elements of the Jewish religion. It is particularly designed for individuals interested in converting to Judaism, but is also appropriate for anyone who would like to learn more about the tradition. Please contact Rabbi Edelman-Blank for more information.
Sunday afternoons at 1:00pm
This group meets Sundays at 3:00pm; we are working on the basics of the reading and writing of Hebrew letters and will advance to text reading and service skills in the spring. Call Patrick Courtney with any questions or for additional information.
Jewish Women’s Book Group
In October, 2007, a small group of women started a book group and we have been meeting monthly (except for Septembers) ever since. Over the years, we have read 80 books that have either a Jewish theme or characters. Now we would like to make our group a Tifereth Women’s Book Group and welcome any woman of Tifereth who would like to join us.
Members choose a month to host and select a book of their choice although the coordinator sometimes makes recommendations to those who want one. The host leads the discussion.
If you would like to join us, or if you have any questions, please contact the office at 515-255-1137 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We promise a lively social get together and an interesting discussion focused on the book.
