Tifereth Israel Hosts Artist-in-Residence Weekend with Robbi Sherwin
November 17-19th, 2017
Based in the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin, Texas’ Rockin’ Rabbi Robbi (R3) Sherwin grew up all over the US in small towns as an Air Force “brat,” which is probably responsible for her wanderlust today. Robbi travels extensively as a rabbi/cantor, composer, scholar-in-residence, performer and teacher. She is one-third of the award-winning Jewish trio, Sababa, with Scott Leader & Steve Brodsky; has written and published over 100 Jewish songs; and, has recorded five award-winning albums of original Jewish music. From Tulsa to Tel Aviv, Daytona to Des Moines, Robbi’s spirited Jewish song crafting and rock, pop, folk and “Jewgrass” stylings are known for their accessibility, high energy and memorable melodies.
For ten years, Robbi has served as the spiritual leader of Congregation B’nai Butte in Crested Butte, Colorado, where she enjoys the “Rocky Mountain Chai-life”: connecting others to Judaism through “outside the bimah” Jewish experiences with an infectious attitude of high-altitude gratitude. She leads mountain hikes and whitewater rafting adventures. Robbi is the Vice
President of the Women Cantor’s Network, a Storahtelling™ Maven, a mentor to song leaders and cantors, (her favorite student is Patrick Courney!) an active member of interfaith organizations, a multi-instrumentalist and an avid mah jongg player. She has been finding was ways to include “babies to Bubbies” in owning and loving their Judaism through music for over two decades.
