Holidays

Our traditional holiday services feature readings from Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) at Sukkot, Shir HaShirim (Song of Songs) at Passover, and the Book of Ruth at Shavuot.

On Purim, we celebrate with a Megillah reading in both Hebrew and English, games, and (of course) costumes. Simchat Torah features musicians, dancing and dinner, while Hanukkah is marked with parties for children and adults. We redefine “eating out” with a harvest meal in our sukkah during Sukkot, and invite the community to join us for a second-night seder each Passover.

Our outreach to the greater Des Moines community includes open programs to reflect on Tisha B’Av, Yom HaShoah and Kristallnacht.

Weekday services for holidays begin at 9:30 a.m.

Hanukkah, Chol Ha-Moed Sukkot and Passover services that fall on Tuesday morning minyan days begin at 7:00 a.m.
